Tacos Tu Madre (First Time!)

Long time no write. JP sent me a message saying there was this place called Tacos Tu Madre nearby. I had never heard of this place and never go down that street and never would have found out about this if she hadn't told me. There is a serious lack of good food in this area so I was excited to try this. I ordered and went to grab it in fifteen minutes and I'll be damned if it wasn't ready.

I got the grilled chicken bowl which consisted of cilantro lime marinated chicken, pico de gallo,
avocado tomatillo salsa, chile lime queso fresco
. I also got the Korean taco which had 36 hour asian marinade steak, kimchi, avocado tomatillo salsa. Both of these were so damn amazing. The bowl is enough for two meals so I had half. The place looks super nice. I got it to go but they have seating indoors and outdoors. I know people are asking about Covid spacing and such. Just get your food and go home if you're worried, you weirdos.

Baby Blue's And Fritzi Coop

Today I headed to Baby Blue's over here in West Hollywood because its Memorial Day and my mother said the word “barbecue” one too many times. Bludso's is a little too far for my lazy ass so I called my order in. I ordered a Bacon Blue Stuffed Burger, fries, a hotlink, banana pudding, and Kool-Aid. I asked for a roll since they have no buns of anything for the hotlink and they gave me cornbread. I should say “cornbread.” I'll get to that in a moment. The burger was good but I couldn't taste this “stuffed” aspect of it. Just a good burger. Not amazing. Just good. The Kool-Aid was good. I won't order the fries again. They were cold less than five minutes later by the time I got home.

Baby Blue's BBQ

I went to this place called Baby Blue's BBQ in West Hollywood yesterday for lunch. I had not been to this place in years and decided to get a burger and chicken even though I said I didn't want any chicken or a burger. Go figure. I ordered a Willie Brown Burger which has American cheese, maple bacon, onion rings, and barbecue sauce. It was so damned good. I just forgot to get fries which sucked but the burger was really good. It did not cripple me and was just the right size. Oh, and it tasted like it was barbecued. I know that sounds weird, but I have had burgers that claimed to be barbecued but tastes like smoke sauce.

I also got, because I'm a fat ass, the Smokin' Wings. They were really good but I made the mistake of getting the XXX sauce (Habanero, serrano, poblano, with pineapple, raspberry, and mango). Ooh, boy. These damned things had the back of my head sweating. They were good but next time I'll get something that my soft ass can handle. Oh, and they have Kool-Aid! Come on, now. You know I got some of that too. I also got some banana pudding for dessert. I was not planning on eating this all in one day but I did. I plan on getting the chicken sandwich today. And the Kool-Aid.

Update. The following day I headed back and got a chicken sandwich, Kool-Aid, and some fries. Nothing to write home about. Maybe I should have gotten the shredded chicken. Its a filet but a very thin piece that is folded over once. If it was fried (which I do not believe there is an option of) or seasoned well this would have been good because the salad on top and the bun were nice. The fries were seasoned and just limp. I was hoping for thick ones. I'll just stick with wings and try their links at some point.

Shake Shack In West Hollywood

JP and I finally made it to Shake Shack. This place is new so its very popular. We tried to go last week but the line was too long so we gave it another try with plans B. and C. just in case the line was still too long. The line was long but moved faster than last time. We were luckily able to get a table inside because the idea of sitting outdoors with dozens of people staring at us eat is not fine. I got a bacon burger with fries and a Sprite. JP got this beer an bacon grease made burger with cheese with a mango drink. We went halfsies on the fried chicken sandwich.

The bacon burger was awesome. Really good bacon but a bit smaller than I was expecting. The one JP got was super greasy and missing...something. It had powerful strong mustard on it but needed lettuce and tomato or something. I'm not quite sure. The crispy chicken sandwich was very good as well and is keeping me on my hunt that I have with Camille for the best chicken sandwiches. I'll be heading back here for sure but hopefully it will calm down a bit so I can just grab something in less than ten minutes.

Back At Marix

Last week JP and I went to Marix. We tried to go to Shake Shack but the idea of waiting in line for an hour when we're hungry is not good for us or society. So we walked back down the street and went to Marix. We looked at the menu and wanted to try something new but eventually we were like “Why are we doing this to ourselves?” We ended up ordering what we got last time. I got a burger and fries. She got a Cubano. And we split these chicken fajitas. Everything was just as good as last time and we left full as hell and continued to have a fun day. This place is really cool by the way. The staff is nice, not pushy and all over you for refills or checking on your order, and its nice and open. You should check it out next time you're in WeHo. And of course we topped it all off with Carmella.

Laughing At Marix

JP and I went to Marix here in WeHo. I had been here once before but didn't actually look at the menu all that much. We were welcomed in and got to pick our seat. The place was super packed. We sat down and were brought some tortilla chips and salsa that JP loved. I should have had more but I wanted to make room for my burger. Yes, a burger. JP: “Only you would go to a Mexican restaurant and order a burger.” Dante: “Tex-Mex. Its Tex-Mex.” I got the Marix burger with bacon and cheese with fries and damn it was good.

JP got this crazy ass “Cubano” thing that had this steak that was awesome. The rice was good and I got to try chimichurri. Ooh, I loved it so much! Oh, and it had plantains! Versailles used to make really good ones but slipped and now I know I can come here for them and its down the street! Of course we ended up laughing like lunatics while talking. We ended up being there at the busiest part of the day and talked until it cleared out. The waiter was really cool and accommodating to us and I think he loved the fact that we were either laughing or smiling each time he came by. I'll definitely be coming back here.

Grub For Crack Bacon

JP and I hung out yesterday and we went to this place called Grub over on Santa Monica and Seward. Its kind of a weird spot because there are nothing but studios nearby and its on a quiet little side street. She had mentioned this place a while back so we headed there.

Parking was easy enough because we found a spot right near it. We sat outside for a moment until I heard a couple ask to be seated inside because of flies. I was like “Hell no” and asked to be seated inside as well. One thing you must know: it will take a while to get your food. I would bitch more about it if the food wasn't so good.

So Much Continental Kitchen

I ended up going to Continental Kitchen three times in three days. I took my cousin J. for the first time as well as my cousin Mala. I then grabbed some and took it over Cam's. I love this place and they have been good consistently.

Continental Kitchen Hot Dog

I went to the Continental Kitchen again the other day and decided to try one of their hotdogs. I don't eat them often and I was sure that whatever this place made it would be good. I was correct! This monster was very filling and came with their magic fries that taste perfect. The all beef hotdog came with lettuce and tomato as well as pickle.

The next time I go to this place I am gonna eat there because both times I picked my food up it was very comfy looking inside. The staff here is nice and when they give you a time to pick up your food it is just coming out of the kitchen and hot. I am waiting for the chance to take one of my friends here so they can see that it is as good as I have been saying.

Continental Kitchen

I just discovered a new place to get food that is less than a minute from my home, is not expensive, and tastes amazing. It is called Continental Kitchen and it is located in the same spot as Tasty Donuts on Santa Monica Blvd.

I originally called Philly Steak Depot and after three minutes of trying to tell the lady on the phone my address before she finally told me they don't deliver here (they do) I checked for burgers in West Hollywood. When I saw the address I thought that either the information had not been updated or that it was flat out wrong. Nope. Turns out I was that close to great food.

The food was ready in 15 minutes (I called it in). I walked over there and was mad that I've passed this place so many times. It is really comfy looking inside and the staff was nice. I grabbed my food which was way cheaper than I was expecting. For this big burger, these strange delicious fries, and a fresh smoothie it was $15. They have all kinds of food. Not just burgers. They have liquor, fresh everything, a juice bar, coffee, and serve breakfast/lunch/dinner. I have to say that this burger was very fresh tasting. It took years for me to know the difference when I ate somewhere and this place has fresh burgers. If you are in the area you need to go here.

Mama's And Papa's Pizza Again

I went back to Mama & Papa's in West Hollywood. Last time I went with my cousin Mala but this time it was with Cam. She'd never been there before and what made the fact that I was going again is that I had leftover pizza in my fridge and when I got into the car with her she asked what we should go and eat I responded “Anything but pizza.” She then said she wanted to try this place and there are certain restaurants that if you offer I can't say no. So we parked and walked on down there.

When we arrived and checked out the menu I saw that there was way more there than I noticed the first time. They have chicken, sandwiches, and breakfast food. Are you a fan of breakfast food? I am. So I am gonna have to try theirs out. I ordered the barbecue and chicken pizza and it is so weird how different fresh food tastes when you aren't used to eating it. This damned thing was just so good. Most times I eat pizza with chicken it tastes like everything was just chucked on there and baked all at once. Not here. All fresh.

Fat Tour 2014

The other day I hung out with my cousin J. and it was awesome. We don't see each other often so when we do we tend to eat stuff that we have been talking about. This time it was a trip to two spots. One I forgot I mentioned which ended with us being stuck in traffic for an hour on Sunset Blvd. There was some accident and we sat in her car laughing our asses off at music, people walking by, and life.

We were heading towards the wrong pastry place and she said that she thought we were going to Pinche's first. I was confused and guided us into the bad traffic I mentioned. We finally got there and I ordered us two Mexican Cokes which she'd never had before. We both commented on how you can't drink as much of these as you can regular Coke's.

I ordered what I always order which were the flautas. I said I wouldn't but I did. This time I got the beef ones and they are so damned good. I wasn't even trying to cut them in half. I just crammed them into my mouth and let the guacamole get all up in my beard.

Vito's Pizza On La Cienega

Last weekend me and Coco went to this place called Vito's Pizza over on La Cienega between Santa Monica and Willoughby. I've lived in this damned neighborhood for over 15 years and I've never heard of this place until Coco mentioned it and said how good the pizza was. After I had went to Two Boots in Echo Park I'd complained that there was not a great pizza place near me. Turns out there was and its a ten minute walk from my home and probably the best pizza I've had.

That's a huge plate by the way.

I have passed by this lace literally hundreds of times and never saw it. Its in that shopping center and right in the corner. It seems like a small place but there's plenty of seating and ones at the counter and even outside. The chick at the counter was nice and they have a good selection of pizzas. Oh, and they deliver! I got a pepperoni with a sausage/ham/pepperoni to go and ended up grabbing another slice to go.

I grabbed a menu and saw that they also have a ton of other things like sandwiches and such. Check this place out if you are ever in the neighborhood. You better let me know so I can come!

Larb And Ribs At Sammy's Thai

This past Saturday I was talking to Dashuh on the phone and she mentioned the fact that she got ribs. I wasn’t even thinking of ribs until she brought it up and I decided to give Sammy’s Thai ribs a try since in the years I’ve been going I had never tried anything in the form of a barbecue. So I ordered them and while very messy (thankfully I don’t eat ribs in public) getting on my pants and blanket they were very good. But you know I cant stop there. I’m not gonna get something to eat there and get just one thing. They’re that good. I also got a cup of Thai iced tea that I managed to drop while still in the restaurant. It wasn’t my fault. They tied it weird and it was cool because they replaced it for free.

The other dish I got was, of course, the larb. I love their larb. Dashuh looked it up and said that larb sounded like what you’d do after eating it. Regardless, it’s a great meal. I got the spicy one and it wasn’t really that different than the non-spicy one. I had two of the four ribs and most of the larb. Damn it. That is a weird word. I had to fight to make sure that I didn’t head back the next day to get some more of it. I’ll try and get something new the next time I go. Try.

The Gardens Of Taxco West Hollywood

Yesterday me and The Engineer went to this place called The Gardens Of Taxco over here in West Hollywood. She grew up nearby and I have lived here for over a decade and neither of us had ever been to this place. Which is kinda weird because we eat at places all the damned time and this place is less than a minutes walk. I almost went here in 2010 but didn’t for some reason. I think someone said “empanada” and I ran in the other direction. For good reason as it turns out. Here’s what their enchilada looks like.

Carney's On Sunset

There’s this hotdog place up on Sunset Blvd. called Carney’s. You know the place if you’ve driven down Sunset. It looks like a train car. They have a little rivalry with Pink’s on Melrose. And by a little rivalry I mean that Carney’s put up a big ass billboard advertising themselves right above Pink’s. What a dick move. I mean, the two places are so different there’s no reason to compete. Pink’s is popular. Carney’s is not. Its like comparing McDonald’s to The Counter.

I had not eaten from Carney’s in close to 10 years because the last experience I had with them was so bad. They are not far from me and when me and some co-workers from the old porn shop ordered a few things it took them close to two hours to bring it. Nothing like an ice cold hotdog! But thankfully I didn’t have that experience this time. I got a half pound burger with fries to start. Yes, I said start. Very good. Fries were not burned and the burger was cooked thoroughly. Looking at you, Umami Burger. The hotdogs are good but nothing to get your panties wet about. They do give you a baby bucket of sauerkraut for some reason.

At Omi Sushi Again

I went to Omi Sushi yesterday with Miss E. yesterday. It was good. After some issues with brown rice we got our lunch special and it was delicious. I got the iced green tea (which I added sugar to), miso soup, and of course the shrimp tempura sushi and whatever that is on the right. It was good and I used a lot of wasabi. As I sat there listening to Lupe Fiasco being blasted out the radio I realized how many good sushi places I have passed up over the years and that I need to try an all you can eat place once. I get full off sushi fast and cant imagine me plowing through a lot of it. But we’ll see…

Omi Sushi

In my adventures in my neighborhood, meaning I finally realized that I could eat sushi without going as far as I was, I checked out this place pretty much across the street called Omi Sushi. I have walked past this place hundreds (if not thousands) of times and never went inside. I ordered the same thing as I always do and when I go someplace new. Shrimp tempura. Wow, this place is good! Cheaper than Yoshi Sushi or Sushi Cat, larger portions, and they also include fried fruit with sweet sauce. Their wasabi portions were also good. I love wasabi! If you’re ever in my neighborhood we’re going to Omi Sushi. I also need to point out that the staff is really nice and courteous.

Yoshi Sushi

Today I went to this place called Yoshi Sushi here in West Hollywood. As some of you may know, I hated sushi for years. The fact that I even eat it now is still amazing and brand new to me. Last year Ms. J. took me to this place, I believe in Pasadena, and I was shocked that I liked it so much. Since then I have kinda become addicted. At work I was going to Sushi Cat at least twice a week. Oh, I am so glad to find a new place right up the street that tastes so good! Yoshi Sushi is close, fast, and really good. Damn, it was big too! I got my go-to sushi dish of shrimp tempura. I enjoyed it and will be there again soon enough. So happy I went there!

Sammi's Thai Again

Went to Sammi's Thai with my cousin last week and had another great time. I stuck with my new old favorites since I am afraid of change like some crazy old man that see's a car with doors that open up instead of out.

I got the chicken pad see ew and had my cousin pick out all of the broccoli. You all know my body cant process that crazy stuff. I love it because they give you so much it can last for like three meals.
Photobucket
My cousin got this big ass shrimp and chicken fried rice. It tasted super good.
Photobucket
She also got these egg rolls that had no eggs. They were just vegetables. No, I did not touch them no matter how many times she told me to.
Photobucket
I also ordered the pork wontons. There is seriously not that much pork in it. Can you see it? No? That's because its not really in there. Its crunchy though and I like crunchy.
