Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse Review

L and I went to Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse for Dine LA this year. Last night actually. We did not enjoy ourselves. I have not done a review like this in a while but then I have not had such a miserable experience like this in a long time. We had whittled down our food options to five places and I wanted this one because I was in the mood for a good steak and she liked the idea of getting butter cake. She really likes butter cake. We got directions for this place and it was nowhere near where I thought. It was at the Century City Mall. I had not been there for a long time and neither had she.

After fighting to find parking (will get to that in my rating) we let them know we were running late. They said that was not a problem. We finally get there and are told they are short staffed and that we will have to wait for a table. Mind you, we were already late. Would have been mad if we showed up on time and had to wait. We sit down in the bar area and they bring us menus. L is confused like “Are we being served dinner here?” The lady from the door lets us know our tables are ready and we headed upstairs. We get sat in what L said was the “Black section” and meet our waiter. I let him know we are here for the Dine LA thing after L pointed it out and he goes “Oh, that's a different menu” and brings it to us.

We ordered an old fashioned and a Moscow mule for drinks. The old fashioned was pretty much a glass of whiskey with a giant ice cube in it. My mule had almost zero ginger beer in it. We also had this bread that L thought was covered in butter. It was sweet bread with an icing and salt on top. A very strange mix. I thought it was fine but would have been happier with regular bread. After more waiting we got some of our food. I had a Thai shrimp thing that was sweet and fine. L got a lobster bisque that was okay. She liked it had lobster chunks in it. After another long wait we finally got our meals.

I got a steak that had flavor in the last bite. It came with mashed potatoes which I didn't know because I wouldn't have ordered a side of mash potatoes as well. L got the broccolini which was crazy thick. I have had this before at the best place of Erf, Musso and Frank's. It was thin enough to enjoy the stems. This was just super thick. After finishing it was time for dessert. L ordered the butter cake and I ordered a strawberry cheesecake. We waited for it a very long time and our waiter was nowhere to be seen. I eventually asked another waiter to bag up our food. Finally saw our actual waiter and asked if we could get the dessert to go and he said “Dine LA want people to eat it here.” I literally don't give a fuck what Dine LA wants! I want to get the hell out of this place. After another twenty minutes L made it obvious we wanted to go and told another waiter. A manager or someone heard this and I asked for the check.

Even at Dine LA prices this place cost too much for what we had. We never got the dessert by the way after the waiter vanished again. We both agreed that we would never come back to this place. There was nothing we ate that was good enough to make us give them a second chance and it sucks I picked this place for us to go. I wish we had gone to Lawry's or something. I'm gonna have to make it up to her in a few weeks.

Location: Sucks. We had to park in the crazy full lot and it was a little over half a mile to the restaurant. Its in the front of a mall so you have to go through mall foot traffic before walking into a dark restaurant where they have not decided what the aesthetic is. The whole set up of the place is confusing and we couldn't wait to get out of there.

Price: Way too much for what we got. That was the smallest steak I have received and if I wanted to go a size up it was significantly more. Hell, they charge a lot for basic sides at most places. You gonna charge me how much for sauced butter? No thank you. I don't mind paying a lot for a special occasion and have gladly done so. But this place? Nah.

Service: Terrible. We were warned that the place was short staffed but that shouldn't translate to bad service. Making the reservation and pointing out that we we were there for Dine LA almost felt guilty. I saw a lot of people walking around working but our waiter straight up disappeared for a very long amount of time. No coming to check on us. It was like us being there bothered him. As someone who dislikes their own job I am still the best at it. Just saying. I have never missed out on a part of a meal I paid for because I couldn't wait to get out of a place. As soon as I signed the check I grabbed our regular ass brown bag (not given one with name of place on it like everyone else) we ran out of there.
