My Birthday Food Tour

Last weekend I celebrated my birthday weekend with the coming together of people I love and food. It started on Saturday hanging with JP and heading to Plan Check. We parked in the pay lot because fuck looking for parking on Fairfax during the middle of the day on a Saturday. We shared the food because we family. She got the chicken and waffles which were as good as always and I got the Chef's burger without the yolky ass egg. We split the pastrami gravy fries which were really good but had a sprinkle of pastrami at the bottom. JP also made me a cake which I finished today. She got a slice but the rest was all mine! Deal with it.

On Sunday Cam and I headed to Inti which is the amazing Peruvian spot on Melrose. We shared the Ceviche De Camarones that has shrimp in lemon juice with onions. There are also potatoes (sweet and regular) as well as roasted and boiled kernels. The boiled ones are new. This stuff is so damn good. Cam got the Pescado Saltado fish strips with french fries, sauteed onions, and tomatoes and I had the pasta with chicken, onions, and tomatoes. It was so good. Then on Monday I went with SR to Inti once again and we got the civiche. She loved it and had never been here before. She also got the Arroz Chaufa De Camarones which was really good shrimp fried rice with scrambled eggs and green onions. It tasted like how shrimp fried rice tasted in the 80's. I got the Lomo Saltado that is strips of beef sauteed with onions, tomatoes, french fries on steamed white rice and strips of beef sauteed with onions. Each meal I had was enough for three meals. I had so much fun and had so much good food with cool ass people making it one of my favorite birthdays.

Month And A Half Worth Of Food

I have a lot of food blogging to catch up on so I am cramming them all into this post. About a month ago JP and I went to Plan Check after seeing that they had this damned burger with cheese, bacon, and fried onions. I was all over that after we found out that they could turn their small burgers large. We also got their fries, drinks, and JP got the chicken sandwich. Everything was super good. Afterward we headed to this place called Cofax which turned out to be horrible. The look on JP's face when she saw the small selection was priceless. I got two donuts, a mango one that was so damned tart that I could only have one bite. I also got some pistachio deal and a regular ass cookie. We enjoyed our coffees but will never head to this place again. JP was already looking for another donut place while we waited for our order and we headed to California Donuts which was fucking awesome. Every single donut we got from them tasted amazing. No ICDC but really good.

Plan Check Linkin Park Meal

This past Tuesday JP and I headed to Plan Check over on Fairfax to grab some food and hunt for donuts. #RIPICDC. If you wanna hear us talk about this and other nonsense click here. A few days before that she had sent me a link showing this new meal that Linkin Park had at Plan Check that had five things for $39. I looked at it and was like “meh.” I like Linkin Park and have about three or four of their albums but wasn't sure about paying that much for what looked like a tiny dish. Well, I was very wrong. Its a lot of food and well worth it. Plus you get a damned t-shirt! Thankfully JP is not a fan of the band so she let me have the shirt.

You get a mandarin and black cheery cream soda which tastes good. There are also kimchi dusted fries which were very good and I wish they would just keep it on the menu and not for a limited time. There is a ahi tuna tostada which I tried one tiny piece of so I cant say how good it was or not. I'm not a fish expert. I tend to eat it fried with hot sauce. There was the Korean barbecue pork belly grilled cheese which was so good! It was way bigger than I expected as well. JP mentioned that while it had a lot of sauce and business going on it was not soggy at all. And for dessert there is a OML cruller. It has pineapple, yuzu air (whatever that is), coconut glaze, and a chocolate disc with a pineapple. JP was able to cut this thing with a spoon. It was super light and a new taste. Most of these are definitely worth getting a la carte.

The Burgers & Ice Cream Crew

I went to Plan Check again with my cousin JP and we went to town like we normally do. Two burgers, crazy ass fries with a bunch of toppings, and of course their fried chicken. I was talking to her about how I like the fact that they are consistently good. I used her picture because it came out better than mine. You can see the bacon all glistening. Then we stopped off at Carmela for some ice cream. We even got a couple of to-go of their pumpkin pie flavor. But we're not gonna talk about what happened to hers...

More Lots Of Food

A few weeks ago Heidi came to visit so we headed to Plan Check since she'd never been before. We got the candied bacon burgers and of course their fried chicken. That has become a regular thing now. About a week or so ago I met up with H. and B. and went to Marix over here. I'd never been there before or knew it actually existed. I got guacamole and chips that were good and shrimp fajitas with lemonade. Then last week I hung with JP and we had some Thanksgiving leftovers and then headed to Carmela's because she is addicted. We got the pumpkin pie ice cream and I'll be damned if it wasn't some of the best ice cream I've ever had.

Lazy Fat Blogger

I have been such a bum the last month or so and not posting when I went somewhere to eat. On Halloween hanging out with my awesome cousin JP we headed to Continental Kitchen and some some bacon burgers and fries. Great as always. I headed to Penguin's with Cam after a shopping adventure because we hadn't been there in a minute. Love that place. With Koko we went to Mel's on Hollywood in between movies at the AFI film festival. Good food. Last week me and my cousin Mala went to Plan Check on Fairfax after shopping. We got a burger and their amazing fried chicken. She said hers had too much fat but it was still super tasty. Cool ass waiter, too.

Fried Chicken At Plan Check

Today JP and I went to Grub and they were closed. The end. Seriously, we headed there and they were closed until 5pm so we were gonna head to Bludso's but then I suggested Stout but JP had already been there before so then I remembered that Plan Check is supposed to have bomb ass fried chicken so we went there instead. I am currently drinking apple moonshine from BevMo so forgive any nonsense in this post, yes?

Parking was easy and we found a spot pretty fast. We got a nice seat and ordered our food. For a drink I got a mango soda that was pretty damned good. For food I decided that we were gonna get some of everything and split it. We got fries, a Chef Burger that has the fried cheese, bacon, and ketchup leather. For the first time I tried the pastrami sandwich which had everything pastrami does but...better. Then we got the fried chicken. It is a lot. Sits on a bed of yam preserve and some really good milk gravy. We left the pickled okra out. When I say this is some of the best fried chicken I've ever had that made JP dance in her chair I am not lying.

Mama's & Papa's Once Again

A few days ago I was able to head to Mama & Papa's again, this time with my cousin J. I wanted to try their Philly steak sandwich after seeing it on the menu last time as well as a new flavor of pizza. I seriously love this place. The staff is cool, the restaurant is close to my apartment, and the prices aren't ridiculous.

I believe J. got the Aro pizza while I got the steak sandwich that came with fries as well as the Mexican pizza. The sandwich was really good and filling and I'll be getting it again.

The Mexican pizza was good and had my mouth watering. This is probably my favorite flavor from here now. The jalapenos were hot but very good. They caught me off guard because I'm used to places using ones that are just kinda hanging there for flavor. We also went to Plan Check the next day and chowed down on some great bacon burgers and fries. It was a good weekend.

Plan Check Once Again

Mama Lukes and I went to Plan Check today. I don't get to see her often so when she said she wanted to try something good I asked what she was in the mood for. She said a burger or sandwich. It was between Food Fair by Diego and Plan Check. She'd never been to either but between the two I'll almost always pick Plan Check. We headed there, found parking, and went inside. I got the Bleuprint Burger which has smoked blue cheese, pig candy, fried onions, roasted garlic steak sauce, peppercress (?), with fries, and a Sprite. I'd never had this one and it was so damned good. We split our burgers so we got to try each. Both of them were very good.

This was a lunch special so it was even cheaper than usual. ML got the Chefs Favorite Burger which had cheese two ways, bacon two ways, ketchup leather, sunny fried egg, and hot sauce. That one tasted good as well. She did not have the fried egg which I've never had either because I can't eat eggs sunny fried. The cheese two ways is melted cheese and this kinda fried, wafer type cheese. She liked her meal as much as I did and I was glad. I hate taking someone to a place they have never tried and they hate it or think of three other places that are better. I'll be heading back here again soon enough. I still haven't had a chance to try their drinks which are supposed to be incredible.

Lots Of Different Food

I have been to quite a few paces in the past few weeks and have totally been slacking when it comes to writing about them so like a lazy ass I'm gonna just post each one in this one blog. This isn't a Fat Tour because its over a period of weeks and not a day. Enjoy!

On Halloween before the parade me and my cousin Mala headed to Sweet Chile on Santa Monica Blvd. I had stopped going to this place for years choosing to head to Sammy's Thai Barbecue instead. Well, sad to say this but Sammy's is no longer edible. I'm serious. The food tastes so bad now. At Sweet Chile we got dumplings that looked like none I'd seen before but tasted great. Beef pad se ew as well as shrimp fried rice. Oh, and really good friend won tons. They have really large portions even for a regular size so expect to take leftovers. We had enough left for sharing each others food and two separate meals the following day. The staff here is really nice and the location is on the main street but it is nice and calm inside. Thai places love old R&B and pop.

Burgers At Plan Check

A couple of nights ago me and some co-workers went to this place over on Sawtelle called Plan Check. BS had said it was great and boy he did not lie! I had been over in this area once before with Cam when we got the moving spaghetti, Blue Marlin. I got the Chef’s Favorite which had a cheese…uh…plate, bacon, sauce, and fries that were fried in beef fat. I didn’t get it with an egg on it because I’m not a fan of unscrambled eggs. This was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Top three for sure. The fries were amazing and everything was served on baby skillets. Don’t go here if you’re in a rush.

The service is not the fastest in the world but they are plenty nice. Parking is a whore depending on when you go because this area is heavily populated. I’ll be going here again very soon. I doubt I'll remember the name of it though because its really not catchy. The prices are slightly high but worth it for the big ass burger and amount of fries. You could split the fries between two people and be okay. The seating is all around the windows, outside, and a small island indoors for a large group. There is a large selection of things to try and crazy mixed drinks I will attempt to have at some point.
