Plan Check Linkin Park Meal

This past Tuesday JP and I headed to Plan Check over on Fairfax to grab some food and hunt for donuts. #RIPICDC. If you wanna hear us talk about this and other nonsense click here. A few days before that she had sent me a link showing this new meal that Linkin Park had at Plan Check that had five things for $39. I looked at it and was like “meh.” I like Linkin Park and have about three or four of their albums but wasn't sure about paying that much for what looked like a tiny dish. Well, I was very wrong. Its a lot of food and well worth it. Plus you get a damned t-shirt! Thankfully JP is not a fan of the band so she let me have the shirt.

You get a mandarin and black cheery cream soda which tastes good. There are also kimchi dusted fries which were very good and I wish they would just keep it on the menu and not for a limited time. There is a ahi tuna tostada which I tried one tiny piece of so I cant say how good it was or not. I'm not a fish expert. I tend to eat it fried with hot sauce. There was the Korean barbecue pork belly grilled cheese which was so good! It was way bigger than I expected as well. JP mentioned that while it had a lot of sauce and business going on it was not soggy at all. And for dessert there is a OML cruller. It has pineapple, yuzu air (whatever that is), coconut glaze, and a chocolate disc with a pineapple. JP was able to cut this thing with a spoon. It was super light and a new taste. Most of these are definitely worth getting a la carte.

Returning To Bunker Hill

Last week I went to Bunker Hill with Miss J. I had not been here for a few years according to this blog and tried some different stuff. We started with sushi (I forget what she had but I had shrimp tempura) and both were really good. We also got duck fries which had cheese and ducks cubes and tasted so damned good. I used chopsticks to eat them because I'm classy like that. There were also fajitas but I didn't get a picture of those because we started eating them. We went during happy hour so everything was a little cheaper. It was a lot of food and I don't think we finished all of it. I was super stuffed and had to let out a zombie moan to clear some space in my soul so I could walk later. Next time I am downtown I'm heading back here again just to get that burger and fries. I'll chill on everything else so I have the energy to run from the homeless folks.

Poppy + Rose In Downtown

JP and I went to this place called Poppy + Rose located in downtown L.A. This is the first time we ventured from my area to grab something to eat and it was well worth it. This place is located a belch and a holler from Skid Row so be prepared for that. I sat on the little bench outside and when JP arrived we went straight to the counter and ordered. I got the Poppy Burger that was two quarter-pound patties, house coleslaw, bacon, caramelized onion, cheddar cheese, and house thousand island. It was...incredible. Pretty sure it made my top five favorite burgers. It was super good and if I were not in public it would have been a mess. I also got a side of fries and a Mexican Coke.

JP got the Fried Chicken Sandwich that had buttermilk-brined chicken thigh, house aioli, and house pickles. Imagine if Chik-Fil-A started making way better sandwiches. We share food because we love each other so she liked my burger and I liked her chicken sandwich. I'd definitely go back to this place again. The service was fast and the place is well spaced and bright. You should check it out for sure.

Cole's Pacific Electric Buffet

Last weekend I went to this spot in Downtown Los Angeles called Cole's. The full name is Cole's Pacific Electric Buffet but that is just too damned long of a name. We went there on a Saturday afternoon and the place was super packed. We found a table since it was just me and EQ and then were told to wait till we were seated. Minutes later we ended up at the same damned table. EQ told me what they had that was good and I got a French dip made with pastrami and a side of bacon potato salad while she got I believe the lamb French dip and these super garlic fries. When I say super I mean super. Sadly, I didn't get any good pictures of my food to use because the place was so dark and I refuse to use flash indoors. I will not be that guy!

The sandwich and bacon potato salad were incredible. I have had French dips at Phillipe's who along with Cole's claim to be the originators of this style of sandwich. The other place was Dough Boy's which was also good. Cole's was by far the best though. I didn't want to eat too much since I was going to be playing broom ball later, something I am still paying for today with my swollen ass knee and sore arms. I had one of EQ's fries and damn those were full of garlic. That's a good thing. I'll for sure be heading back to this place but I'll have to work on my club voice. That's the loud voice you have to use when at a club or bar and its just too damned loud to talk to people.

Food At The End Of 2012

In the past couple of weeks I have been spending time watching movies, hanging out with folks, and enjoying the holidays. Yeah, there’s been more but if you wanna read/hear all that nonsense check out my other blogs. I’ve eaten at a few places and tried some new things and they have been building so I’ve decided to just cram the into a blog about the last places I ate at in 2012.

First up is this chip exhibit I went to with Cam. She writes about beer and potato chips and someone mentioned this to her so we went. It was at this place called 8 Bit in Echo Park. Or Silverlake. I seriously mix the two up.

They had chips from all over the world so me and Cam decided to buy fifteen bags of them. Sounds like a lot but damn it we’re dedicated! By the time we got there, days after the exhibit started, so many crazy ass flavors were already gone.
