Mama's And Papa's Pizza Again

I went back to Mama & Papa's in West Hollywood. Last time I went with my cousin Mala but this time it was with Cam. She'd never been there before and what made the fact that I was going again is that I had leftover pizza in my fridge and when I got into the car with her she asked what we should go and eat I responded “Anything but pizza.” She then said she wanted to try this place and there are certain restaurants that if you offer I can't say no. So we parked and walked on down there.

When we arrived and checked out the menu I saw that there was way more there than I noticed the first time. They have chicken, sandwiches, and breakfast food. Are you a fan of breakfast food? I am. So I am gonna have to try theirs out. I ordered the barbecue and chicken pizza and it is so weird how different fresh food tastes when you aren't used to eating it. This damned thing was just so good. Most times I eat pizza with chicken it tastes like everything was just chucked on there and baked all at once. Not here. All fresh.

Crispy Crust Pizza

Last week I got tired of ordering Domino's and wanted to see if there was a cheaper place to order from that was good. I checked online and saw this place called Crispy Crust that I'd seen driving around. On a whim I checked if they delivered to my area, unlike Pizza Hut, and it turned out that they did. I got a large pepperoni and 18 piece buffalo wings. The pizza was good. It reminded me of one I had years back when a boss ordered it for everyone. The chicken was actually pretty damned good. From now on I'm pretty sure I'll be ordering from this place from now on. Its cheaper than Domino's which charges way too much for a few pieces of chicken.

Numero Uno Solo

Last Saturday I had Numero Uno delivered to my place. I wasn't even sure that they delivered to West Hollywood and when I called the guy that answered didn't sound sure if he knew either. It took a lot of back and forth between him and the driver before he decided that they would bring it. Last time I had this was with Cam and that was when we found out they even did deliveries. I decided that since I was making them come all this way I had to make it worth it.

I ordered the garlic puffs and realized that for one person this is way too much. I'm used to having my best friend eating them with me so from the start I was getting full. I also got the lemon chicken with pasta. If I knew how to make chicken like this at home I would always smell like it.

And you cant go to Numero Uno and not get pizza. I got a medium sausage pizza which was way too much for me. After the pasta I couldn't even touch this until the next day. I have had it two days for lunch at work now and it still tastes great. This place is a bit pricy for one person because when you have a friend you can go halfsies on every meal and be very full. Thankfully they brought this to my home though. I will now blame them for the it is I've been suffering from all night long.

Food At The End Of 2012

In the past couple of weeks I have been spending time watching movies, hanging out with folks, and enjoying the holidays. Yeah, there’s been more but if you wanna read/hear all that nonsense check out my other blogs. I’ve eaten at a few places and tried some new things and they have been building so I’ve decided to just cram the into a blog about the last places I ate at in 2012.

First up is this chip exhibit I went to with Cam. She writes about beer and potato chips and someone mentioned this to her so we went. It was at this place called 8 Bit in Echo Park. Or Silverlake. I seriously mix the two up.

They had chips from all over the world so me and Cam decided to buy fifteen bags of them. Sounds like a lot but damn it we’re dedicated! By the time we got there, days after the exhibit started, so many crazy ass flavors were already gone.

More Numero Uno

About two weeks ago me and Cam went to Numero Uno. I forget how good this place is and each time we've been its been nice. I have been trying different things there so while Cam got her single pizza I tried the lemon chicken linguine. I expected chicken, like, cut up in the pasta but it was next to it. I also didn't expect it to taste so lemony! This is not a complaint. It tasted amazing but I thought maybe a lemon squeezed over it or maybe some juice on it. Nope. This was cooked in lemon or something and was so damned good. We also got those sweet dough balls as well. I took the rest of it home with me and as always it tasted just as if not better the next day.

Domino's Delivers To My House

The other day I ordered pizza from Domino’s and I fucking love it. You know why I love it besides for obvious reasons like its cheap and its good? Its because they actually fucking deliver! I tried ordering pizza from Pizza Hut a few weeks ago and they told me that they don’t deliver to my area. My area? You mean West Hollywood? Its not some obscure or far ass place that I live in. I live in a city that has plenty of food places. They used to deliver here and I don’t know when they stopped but screw them. The jerks.

Barbecue Pizza From Trader Joe's

Last week I grabbed a Trader Joe’s pizza. They have a lot of them there and I wanted to try out the barbecue chicken one. Damn, this thing is good! I had half of it and then realized that it was silly to try and save it till later. So I ate the rest of it. It’s a thin crust pizza which I normally do not enjoy but there’s so much chicken on it that I don’t mind. Its only about $4.99 which is pretty damn cheap for such a good little pizza.

Numero Uno Causes The Itis

A few weeks ago me and Cam went to Numero Uno. I love this place because we always get to sit down pretty fast, its good and dark, and the food is affordable. Its over on Wilshire past La Brea and well worth the trip. I used to get Numero Uno when I was a little kid and it was nothing like this. This is fancy ass tasting pizza. Back then it had this puffy crust and was good but now they just pile it on. You’ll get a wrist injury just lifting this to your face! I got the pepperoni and cheese one and Cam got the veggie one. I think. This was a little while ago but its safe to assume that’s what she got.

I’m not as picky with my pizza as I am with food like burgers or tacos. What I mostly care about is whether or not the sauce tastes like ketchup or if the dough is crappy. Numero Uno not only has great sauce and dough, they cover it with chunks of tomatoes that are actually fresh. The cheese isn’t that weird cheese like when you order from Domino’s. I always feel happy after eating here. Its my inner fat kid that gets the most joy from this.

Andre's Is Good

I went to Andre’s a few days ago with South Paw over on Fairfax & 3rd. This place has stayed the same ever since I was in high school. I mean in the way it looks and the prices. Hell, even the same employees which is really weird. I got a couple slices of pizza, garlic bread, a mango Snapple, and this new shrimp pasta thing they had. I saw some lady get some and was like “That needs to be in my mouth!” It was all very good and you cant beat the price of this place. Andre’s has been good for over a decade. How many other places can you say that about?

Papa John's Pizza

I ordered some pizza from Papa John’s last week for the first time in years. When I first got this place I would order it almost every single week and tear it up. They had the garlic dipping sauce which is pretty much melted butter. Their crust was amazing. And then one day they decided to start making chicken and their quality dropped. They started forgetting the sauce. The dough was awkward. So I stopped until last week when I tried to order Domino’s twice. One time they dropped the phone and the other they put me on hold and forgot about me. So I said kiss my ass and ordered Papa John’s for the first time in years. It was awesome. Crust is back, garlic sauce is back, and they brought it faster than Domino’s even though they are further away. Screw you, Domino’s.

Tomato Pie On Melrose

Last week me and Cam got out of the movies (where I didn’t get my normal staple of Milk Duds, popcorn, and soda) we were hungry. Yes, we had eaten at Toast prior to going to the movies but for some reason both of us were craving something. We didn’t know exactly what we wanted. She wanted something salty. I kept dirty jokes to myself. I wanted something and didn’t know what. We ended up going to this place called Tomato Pie across the street from the hell hole known as my former high school. Damn, this place was good! We got a slice of barbecue chicken pizza and it actually tasted like one. Yeah, I know that sounds weird. But most places that makes barbecue chicken pizza really mean “Hey, this is 90% tomato sauce and some barbecue sauce mixed in. Sorry…” Its on Melrose near Fairfax and you should go there if you want. Good prices, cool staff, fun music, and its tiny as hell.

Domino's Pizza

A few weeks ago I ordered some pizza from Domino’s. It was good. Hey have changed the taste of this and Pizza Hut so many times over the years that if I ate some from the early 90’s I probably wouldn’t even recognize it. I got the regular ass pepperoni and black olives. I don’t like messing around with my pizza too much. Keep it simple. Don’t use pineapples. Ever.
The chicken nuggets which they refer to as Chicken Kickers. They were good but nothing to like call your friends and scream over. Good but not great. It was close to $17 for this meal which lasted a few meals so its an okay deal for the price. Just stick with DiGiorno.

Trader Joe's Pizza

I got some pizza from Trader Joe’s today along with a bunch of other healthy ass stuff. I got this pizza and it was awesome. It was a chicken barbecue thing with Gouda and some other cheese and red onions. I ate half for lunch and just writing about it makes me wanna eat the other half right now. Which I think I’ll do. Yay, Trader Joe’s! And it cost less than $4 thank you very much.

Bodega Wine Bar

Remember that wine bar I mentioned a few blogs ago and couldn’t remember the name? yeah. That one. Its called Bodega Wine Bar. Its on Sunset & Vine and is awesome. Good wine. Good setting. And good food. This place has really good food. The pizza tastes like it was made. I know that doesn’t make sense so let me explain.

Photobucket

It tastes like whoever made it actually takes pride in what they serve. I say head there and enjoy a good time. They have board games, an assload of different wines to drink, and the best bartender I have ever met. Edwin is only the second bartender I have ever met that wasn’t a dick and the first was a chick so there. Go there alone and chill or go with a group of friends and laugh your ass off. And eat and drink of course.

Not A Wino But...

Oh, how I have neglected my poor food blog! Okay. I have a lot of these to do so let me knock these mofos out! There is this wine bar on Sunset Blvd. that I went to with Laura that is amazing. After a Shakesphere play at Griffith Park (which is sadly over) we headed to a wine bar that was amazing.

The atmosphere was very cool. The music was good. And the patrons were very awesome. Everyone there was there to have a good time and a good time was had by all. We started with a red wine that while they came in small glasses were very good. I’m not used to drinking wine that is room temperature but I guess that’s how its supposed to be had sometimes. I took this picture and have no recollection of doing so.

Photobucket

We also had a couple of pizzas. No, we didn’t eat both because we shared with the people at the bar. The pizzas were very good as well. This place (wish I could remember its name) has board games at the bar. I won at both Connect Four and Uno thank you very much

Photobucket

This spot is located near Tender Greens on Sunset Blvd. The bartender was nice and everyone at the bar got along like we were all friends who decided to hook up after work or something. I seriously cant wait to go back.

Numero Uno Is Number One

So I recently went to Numero Uno with Camille. I hadn’t been there for a long ass time. Like, decades. We were trying to figure out where to go and decided on going here. Oh, god. I am so happy we did. This place immediately became one of my favorite new places to eat. I had no idea Numero Uno was so fancy looking inside. Or so close to my own damned house.

We started off with these dough balls. I forget the name of them. It was something in Italian. Don’t judge me. They were covered in garlic, butter, and had a taste of what could only be described as sugar. I am so glad we got this instead of garlic bread. There were six of them and after two I was already getting full. I had to save room for dinner.

Photobucket

Oh, the pizza! It was thick. I kept calling it cake. I got pepperoni with chunks of tomato and Camille got the…uh…I forget. It didn’t have meat so I didn’t eat it. It was really good and after a slice and a half I tapped out. The two glasses of pink lemonade didn’t help. I got the small while Camille got the individual. My pizza was slightly larger and thankfully I didn’t get the medium or else I wouldn’t be here to tell this tale.

Photobucket

If you haven’t been to Numero Uno in a long ass time like me, I say give it a try. So good!

Andre's Pizza

Photobucket
I like Andre’s. This place has been the same since I was 18. The same cashier is even there! I always get the same thing when I go there which you can see in the picture. Just pizza, a mango Snapple (the best with Italian food), and some of their garlic bread that tastes more like cheese. Andre’s is a place that I tend to forget about when I am broke or near it. Its across the street from The Farmer’s Market (or the Grove) and in the back behind the Payless. Not hard to find but you cant exactly see it from the street. Give it a try.
