Sandwiches At Toast

A couple of days ago me and Cam went back to Toast. We went in the middle of the day and I was worried that it would be too packed. As we drove by I saw a lot of people and I was worried that we wouldn't get a seat. I was already thinking of a plan B. and going blank. Thankfully it was fine and there was plenty of seats inside. As I sat there trying to ignore all the waitresses in leggings and the male models they have as staff I ordered a very good lemonade. I had my back to the bakery so Cam had a good view of all the sweets. I can not remember what sandwich Cam got. I believe that this is a chicken sandwich with a side of fries. Yeah, let's go with that. Both of us just ate half of our sandwiches because we knew that we were gonna get something right afterward.

I got what was called a Smoked Stack which was a turkey and avocado sandwich that was way better than I thought it'd be. I figured there would be slices of turkey and it was actual pieces of turkey which made it way better. The fries were great as always. After we finished eating we stepped into the bakery and saw so many things we wanted. They have a damned cookie with Twix in it! We were both in ice cream mode so I got strawberry on a big ass cone and Cam got a cup of ice cream that was too much for her as if there's such a thing as too much ice cream. The next time we go I am getting that Twix cookie because it is now stuck in my head.  

Panini Cafe on 3rd & Crescent Heights

The other day before I headed off to work I asked Cam if she’d be up for grabbing something to eat. I was thinking of going to Toast, but the last time we tried it was super packed and we ended up going to At Bangkok. She mentioned that Panini Café on 3rd and Crescent Heights had opened. She had been to the downtown location before and said it was good. She has the good taste so we headed there. I got the #6 which was a chicken sandwich, chicken soup, and an Arnold Palmer. The sandwich was amazing. The bell peppers were perfectly grilled and so damned good. The chicken soup was real chicken soup and not some canned nonsense.

Cam got a salad, this rice with carrots that was good, and chicken kabobs. Both of us enjoyed the hell out of our meals. The staff there was really nice and the food came in minutes. I was shocked when I saw a waiter with plates and it was our meals. The way its set up is really open and people aren’t on top of each other. There’s also outside seating available. The only problem you may have is parking since 3rd street is not made for people to park easily on. Between both our meals it was less than $25 which is a great deal. If you get a chance to go here you really should. I cant wait to head back here and get some more meals.

Mendocino Farms Is Great

Mendocino Farms is a place over here that is fucking amazing. I would post a picture of their food but I have taken some pretty bad ones that don’t represent the food they serve very well. The first time I went was to the one on 3rd and Fairfax next to that new Trader Joe’s across from The Grove with Miss Q. I got an awesome sandwich that I cant recall but it was some sort of club. The next time I went was with Cam where I tried the blue cow chicken sandwich which was so damned good and tasted just as good the next day. I was like “How is this possible?!” 

The third time I went was during a shopping spree with Cam and we tried the one on Santa Monica and La Brea in that Target shopping center aka Parking Here Hurts Your Soul. I got the chicken salad sandwich which looked great on paper and Cam got the same. We tried it and both of our eyes lit up. This was better the next day. The very next day, even as my half sandwich sat at home in my fridge, I went to the one on 3rd with my tattoo artist and tried the steak BLT which blew my fucking mind. Other than great sandwiches this place has lemonades, chips, and a ton of side dishes like potato salads that rule and regular salads. This is a spot I’ll be going to at least every two weeks because the staff is the best out of any restaurant I have been to in L.A and the food is consistently good. I just hope they don’t start popping up everywhere like The Counter because we have seen how shitty their service is now.

Burger Kitchen On 3rd

There is this place called Burger Kitchen on 3rd Street. Neither Cam or I had ever been and randomly decided to go. Finding parking could’ve been hard but it wasn’t. We got to the place and walked into a very dark and very quiet restaurant. It was Friday night and this place was dead. All the other places nearby had a bunch of people and it sounded so fun. Maybe we should have gone to one of those places instead. We sat down and were greeted. There was a giant wall for writing in chalk. Cam leaned against it getting chalk on her sweater.

Andre's Is Good

I went to Andre’s a few days ago with South Paw over on Fairfax & 3rd. This place has stayed the same ever since I was in high school. I mean in the way it looks and the prices. Hell, even the same employees which is really weird. I got a couple slices of pizza, garlic bread, a mango Snapple, and this new shrimp pasta thing they had. I saw some lady get some and was like “That needs to be in my mouth!” It was all very good and you cant beat the price of this place. Andre’s has been good for over a decade. How many other places can you say that about?

Magnolia's Bakery

I went to this place I never noticed called Magnolia’s on 3rd which is a cute ass bakery. Going in there feels all refreshing because it smells like sweet and joy. They have these delicious looking cakes, pies, muffins, cupcakes, and drinks all across the counter. After seeing a picture of this banana pudding that Miss E. had posted I had to try it. After a few bites I was full but saved the rest and will be tearing it apart in a couple hours. Magnolia’s has tables but no chairs so you sit against the windows and watch all the other good things you can try. Very fancy looking and worth whatever you spend there.

The Grove & Farmer's Market

I headed to The Grove and the Farmer’s Market today. The contrast between the places is crazy. They are so close together but so very different. The Grove is busy in the afternoon. Full of tourists, celebrities, and folks that hate watching where they walk. Its cool if you have a destination like the theater or The Cheesecake Factory.



The Farmer’s Market, while busy, isn’t as crammed with people. Just lots and lots of food. You can seriously find food from most countries and a variety of fruits and vegetables. Not that I’d know anything about that. Today I walked through the market more thoroughly than I ever have.



There was this barbecue sauce place that had soda flavored sauces. Seemed kinda scary but my cousin seemed intrigued.



The funny thing about most of the sauces is that they sound so damned threatening. “Kiss My Ass!” “Hog Ass.” “Slap Yo Mama!” Fuck You In The Ear!” Okay, the last one I made up but the rest were real. Check out the one below!



That’s real! Head to The Grove or Farmer’s Market and enjoy yourself. Its fun to play tourist sometimes. Minus the khaki shorts, flip flops, and tucked in t-shirt.

Oh, and my cousin bought a bag of kettle corn! This was butter toffee!

Back At Toast

I went to Toast with my cousin today. It was so awesome. It felt weird not seeing Camille sitting there across from me since every single time I have been it was with her. My cousin had never had it before and I couldn’t take her to The Counter again. Gotta try new things, you know?



This is a picture of her burger. I took one of mine but it turned out to be a video. Yeah. I’m special like that sometimes. I go a regular burger with a side of ranch dressing. Cousin got a burger with cheese (“I gotta have cheese on my Whopper!”) with bacon and “smashed” potatoes. Yes, smashed. She liked her meal and that was cool. I thought about going to Umami Burger but they have been getting some bad reviews lately. And the last time I went they didn’t even have any drinks. I shit you not. No drinks. Just water. Toast is a really cool place to eat as long as you don’t go on the weekend. I read a bunch of reviews and the ones that are bad are from two years ago and sound like bitter actors.

A Toast To Toast

This is the awesome ass burger I got with sweet potato fries. I am now obsessed with these kinda fries.



I went to Toast on 3rd with Camille last week I think. I love this place and never would’ve gone here if she hadn’t taken me. Its one of those places where depending on when you go its either super packed or almost empty. I prefer the latter. I hate eating in crowded places. I know most time when people see a crowded place they feel the need to jump in line and check it out. I’m the opposite. I like quiet eating and not feeling rushed because dozens of people have their faces pressed against the glass and glaring at me waiting for me to finish my meal. Check out Toast. Just not when its busy.
