Vito's Pizza On La Cienega

Last weekend me and Coco went to this place called Vito's Pizza over on La Cienega between Santa Monica and Willoughby. I've lived in this damned neighborhood for over 15 years and I've never heard of this place until Coco mentioned it and said how good the pizza was. After I had went to Two Boots in Echo Park I'd complained that there was not a great pizza place near me. Turns out there was and its a ten minute walk from my home and probably the best pizza I've had.

That's a huge plate by the way.

I have passed by this lace literally hundreds of times and never saw it. Its in that shopping center and right in the corner. It seems like a small place but there's plenty of seating and ones at the counter and even outside. The chick at the counter was nice and they have a good selection of pizzas. Oh, and they deliver! I got a pepperoni with a sausage/ham/pepperoni to go and ended up grabbing another slice to go.

I grabbed a menu and saw that they also have a ton of other things like sandwiches and such. Check this place out if you are ever in the neighborhood. You better let me know so I can come!

Bubba Gump's In Santa Monica

Last week for her birthday I took Hotness to Bubba Gump’s over in Santa Monica. I had passed this place so many times but never thought to myself “I should check that place out.” I am so glad that we did because I’ll have to check this out again for sure!

When we got there we had to wait a few minutes and then were taken downstairs to a seat that was right at the window which is awesome. We could watch all the strange folks that came to the beach while we waited for our food. They have these signs that you flip over to get a waiter to come to the table which is way better than having to flag someone down or try your damnedest to make eye contact with them to get help.

Mendocino Farms Firsties

Last week I went to Mendocino Farms with South Paw who had never been there before. I love this place for the fact that their food is good, they have dozens of choices, and the staff there is cool. South Paw pointed out that no one would even know what I ate since I had flattened it and taken a bite out of it. I got the blue cow something or other. Its chicken and spicy and great.

Mendocino Farms Is Great

Mendocino Farms is a place over here that is fucking amazing. I would post a picture of their food but I have taken some pretty bad ones that don’t represent the food they serve very well. The first time I went was to the one on 3rd and Fairfax next to that new Trader Joe’s across from The Grove with Miss Q. I got an awesome sandwich that I cant recall but it was some sort of club. The next time I went was with Cam where I tried the blue cow chicken sandwich which was so damned good and tasted just as good the next day. I was like “How is this possible?!”

The third time I went was during a shopping spree with Cam and we tried the one on Santa Monica and La Brea in that Target shopping center aka Parking Here Hurts Your Soul. I got the chicken salad sandwich which looked great on paper and Cam got the same. We tried it and both of our eyes lit up. This was better the next day. The very next day, even as my half sandwich sat at home in my fridge, I went to the one on 3rd with my tattoo artist and tried the steak BLT which blew my fucking mind. Other than great sandwiches this place has lemonades, chips, and a ton of side dishes like potato salads that rule and regular salads. This is a spot I’ll be going to at least every two weeks because the staff is the best out of any restaurant I have been to in L.A and the food is consistently good. I just hope they don’t start popping up everywhere like The Counter because we have seen how shitty their service is now.

Röckenwagner Bakery In Santa Monica

Miss E. and I went to Santa Monica a couple days ago. We didn’t hit up our usual spots on Beverly or in Larchmont but decided to check out the beach. I hadn’t been over to Santa Monica in a long ass time and the mall over there was still under construction which had been going on for years. I was shocked to see how much it had changed. There was this entire food court that was the complete opposite of the food court that used to be there that had such mall staples Sbarro and Panda Express. Maybe there was even a Hotdog On A Stick aka Perv Paradise. Miss. E had been here before so I left it up to her to lead me around especially since I’m no expert in fresh food and we ended up at Röckenwagner.

IHOP Staff

Earlier this week I went to IHOP with my tattoo artist Koko. I love IHOP. I can sit there for hours on end eating and talking about life. I ordered the pancakes, eggs, bacon, hash browns, and a strawberry lemonade. It was very good and Koko enjoyed her fancy crepe thing with fruit on it. After a while I realized I hadn’t heard from our waiter in a while. No, it wasn’t busy. It was in the middle of the day with more staff than people. Eventually I had to go and get a refill from the manager. I’m sick of this nonsense with wait staff. Stop that shit! Feed and serve me! I know I may sound dickish, but come on. If I could get my own drinks I would. I barely wanted to leave a tip seeing as how our food took forever to arrive.

Sammi's Thai Again

Went to Sammi's Thai with my cousin last week and had another great time. I stuck with my new old favorites since I am afraid of change like some crazy old man that see's a car with doors that open up instead of out.

I got the chicken pad see ew and had my cousin pick out all of the broccoli. You all know my body cant process that crazy stuff. I love it because they give you so much it can last for like three meals.
Photobucket
My cousin got this big ass shrimp and chicken fried rice. It tasted super good.
Photobucket
She also got these egg rolls that had no eggs. They were just vegetables. No, I did not touch them no matter how many times she told me to.
Photobucket
I also ordered the pork wontons. There is seriously not that much pork in it. Can you see it? No? That's because its not really in there. Its crunchy though and I like crunchy.

Sammi's Thai

Me and Cam headed to this Thai place near me for dinner the other day. I love this place and I rarely go there when I’m at home. I’ve actually had it more often when hanging with Cam than ever alone or whatever. After that whole debacle with that place Kinaree, Sammi’s Thai and King & I are the only places I will be getting my Thai from for the time being.

I started off with a big ass Thai iced tea. You know how I roll. I only got one since I was behaving myself. It was fine because they give you a big ass cup of it. And it was all kinds of sweet!
Photobucket
I got the fried wontons for a starter. I love how different places make these things different ways. These have pork but all you can really taste is the super crunchiness. They are good.
Photobucket
Cam got the vegetable fried rice. No, I did not eat it. But I did get some of her garlic chicken. Damn, that was good! I should have eaten some more but I knew my dish would be big. At least I hoped so. Otherwise Cam wouldn’t have had any leftovers!
Photobucket
I got the lemon chicken. I always get the pad thai (chicken or beef) but decided to try something new. This is me expanding my horizons. This was so damn good! It came with this sauce to dip it in that made the flavor just jump out at you. I’m so glad that I gave this a shot. I’ll definitely be ordering this the next time I head here. So check out Sammi’s Thai on Santa Monica Blvd.

Frosty Cupcakes

Me and Julia C. went to this place that isn’t that far from me on Santa Monica & Highland called Frosty Cupcakes. Wow. Seriously, wow. I had never heard of this place before. it’s a very small spot that is bright powder blue and they have marvelous cupcakes.

We got six of them half priced because Julia is signed up with something called Groupon. Different businesses have super amazing discounts and place their stuff there and you sign up and reap the rewards! We got half a dozen cupcakes. If I remember correctly there were two red velvet, one lemon, one royal chocolate, one mint chocolate, and the one I absolutely had to get.

Chocolate toffee. Damn, it was good. Sweet but not pain inducing sweet like some places are. The place is kinda pricey but like I said, Julia had coupons. Me, Julia, and her mom after eating a fantastic dinner (that I will write about shortly) sat there and just discussed how great these cupcakes were. I’ll definitely be going back there again in a few weeks.

Lola's On Fairfax

Last night I went to this place called Lola’s on Fairfax and Santa Monica. it’s a martini bar. Or maybe its not. Either way they make good martinis. I went there with Heidi, Michelle, and two of Heidi’s friends. It was a cool ass spot. And deceptively large and loud. From the outside it looks small. They were playing a bunch of old school rap songs that we were laughing at. Good times.

Most places depending on where you go bring you things like tortilla chips and salsa, bread and oil or whatever. This place brings fancy chips and some vegetable things I didn’t even try and touch. The chips weren’t crunchy and that was strange but the more I ate the better they tasted. Michelle said they tasted like they were made in truffle oil. I’ll take her word for it.

I had a martini whose name I cant recall. It was very effective. And when I say effective I mean it got me drunk really fast. Like, really fast!

Oh, the macaroni! Heidi was raving about this stuff and she didn’t lie when she said it was the best macaroni ever! It was enough for two people so I had leftovers. This place is super pricey though and not somewhere I would go to often even though it tasted great. Very trendy type place but no one was an asshole and the waitress was nice. But watch out for the gratuity charge.

The Counter In Santa Monica

I know I have written a few blogs about good burgers. Today I was introduced to this place called The Counter on Centinela and 31st (I think…) in Sana Monica that had one of the best burgers I have ever had in my life. Definitely in the top three and may be number one.

There was nothing to not like about this place. The music was awesome. I heard everything from Mos Def to Carlos Santana within minutes of each other. The atmosphere was wonderful. Not too bright and not too dark. This actually affects how I enjoy my meals. Clean bathrooms. Friendly and fast waiters (ask for Ashley) and even though the place was packed we got seated immediately.

The Counter is different in that they give you a clipboard with a checklist of what you’d like on your burger. There are so many choices of things I would never think to put on a burger and sauces I had never heard of. I’ll get to what I got on my in a moment.

Photobucket

I started off with a vanilla shake. Damn, this thing was good! It was real. Camille was horrified when I told her what was used in the McDonald’s shakes. This was a bit pricey but after my first sip of it that scene from “Pulp Fiction” played in my head when they paid for an expensive shake. If its delicious its worth it and you really cant complain.

Photobucket

Next we got fries and fried pickles. The fries were actually perfect. I didn’t need to add salt or even use ketchup. They were just great the way they were. Camille ordered the fried pickles and I had never had them before. So good! They came with an apricot sauce to dip them in and I was shocked at how good they tasted. Yes, that's Camille's hand doing another run-in.

Photobucket

On to my burger. I got a 1/3 pound burger. I asked if I should get the 2/3 pound one and Camille laughed. Thank god I got the “smaller” one. It was ridiculous in size! It had grilled onions that literally melted in your mouth. Greek feta cheese. Bacon. Mayo. A strong barbecue sauce that I drizzled on top. I am still full from this thing and want some more! I had to use two hands the entire time while eating this beast! I was so full and giddy I couldn’t stop laughing, even as I waddled out of the place.

Photobucket

Camille got a vegetarian burger that actually looked good. It had some fancy cheese and stuff. I really should keep track of what my friends eat.

Photobucket

If you are ever in Santa Monica you really should go to The Counter. I absolutely adore this place and will be back at least two more times before the end of the year!

"Asstro" Burger

Went to Astro Burger last week. For those of you that have never been there this place was the place to go when you wanted a good burger and it was 2am and you were drunk off your ass. Sure, its good sober but drunk it’s the best thing on Earth.

The past few years they have been flip flopping. I went there last year and was like “What happened?” Now they are back in form. Well, okay form. I had a burger last week and it wrecked my bowels. Still you should give it a try. This is why being a food reviewer is not my job.

Astro’s has great fries. Their sodas aren’t watered down. And when their burgers aren’t setting my ass on fire they’re great. Give it a try and let me know what you think about ‘em.
