Noodles Station Thai Street Food

After the hike that almost killed me, Cam called me later that evening and asked if I wanted to go to dinner. At first I suggested Pinche's. Then I thought of this place we went to for my birthday a few years back called Shin but Cam is smart and told me to check if they were still open. They weren't. So I thought of how good @Bangkok formerly King & I was so we went there. When we arrived we saw a sign that said Noodles Station Thai Street Food and we panicked. Was this a new place? Were they gone?! No. They just changed their name once again.

Please stop that.

We started with the chicken wontons which were not on the menu anymore. I am not sure why they'd leave it off and only show a vegetarian version. We had to ask if they still made them an it turns out they do. These things are incredible and need to be back on the menu where you can see them.

Vito's Pizza On La Cienega

Last weekend me and Coco went to this place called Vito's Pizza over on La Cienega between Santa Monica and Willoughby. I've lived in this damned neighborhood for over 15 years and I've never heard of this place until Coco mentioned it and said how good the pizza was. After I had went to Two Boots in Echo Park I'd complained that there was not a great pizza place near me. Turns out there was and its a ten minute walk from my home and probably the best pizza I've had.

That's a huge plate by the way.

I have passed by this lace literally hundreds of times and never saw it. Its in that shopping center and right in the corner. It seems like a small place but there's plenty of seating and ones at the counter and even outside. The chick at the counter was nice and they have a good selection of pizzas. Oh, and they deliver! I got a pepperoni with a sausage/ham/pepperoni to go and ended up grabbing another slice to go.

I grabbed a menu and saw that they also have a ton of other things like sandwiches and such. Check this place out if you are ever in the neighborhood. You better let me know so I can come!

At Bangkok

A couple of weeks ago Cam and I went to King & I again. They have changed their name but its in the same spot. I don’t know what its called now. I should probably check. Okay. Its called At Bangkok. I first went here years ago with Cam and we’ve gone once in a while ever since. They’ve changed the way the place has looked and some of the dishes. I got this lemon sauce and chicken dish while she got a soup and papaya salad that was really good. I also got the cream cheese wontons but they were a bit too sweet. It tasted like they were made me strawberry cream cheese. A bit too sweet when combined with the sauce. Next time I go here I’ll try a new dish in my small attempts at expanding my horizons. Its located on La Cienega just past Wilshire.

Gyu-Kaku

Gyu-Kaku is a place on La Cienega that I have passed a billion times and never went to. Tonight Heidi took me and some of her lady friends and we ate some awesome ass food. Okay. Seriously. This past month I have been eating some of the best and new food I have ever had in my life.



They had the nerve to ask if we wanted an appetizer knowing good and damn well how much food we were getting. There was enough food for six people and every one of us left full and happy.



I will try and remember all the stuff we had. I know there were multiple types of beef, this great chicken that was already seasoned, some pork, two kinds of rice, and I know I am leaving stuff out. Oh, there was two giant salads.



This place is really good. The table we were seated at had the little grill right in front of us on the table and little tongs that we used to grill the food ourselves. It smelled so good and didn’t take long for the food too be ready. As soon as it was done someone grabbed a piece. I would definitely love to go back here and have a good time with friends. Make reservations though unless you wanna get kicked out for a larger group that has reservations. Great wait staff and very fast service. Check it out for sure.

King & I

King & I rules. I had never been to this place until one day while hanging out with Camille and Kirby we went. I was in love from the very first sip of their Thai iced teas. I always judge Thai places by how good they are. I’ll never make the mistake of getting one from the doughnut shop ever again. Damn, that was a bad idea. Anyway…



We started off with the potstickers which were so damned good. I actually stopped mid-sentence to talk about how good they were. And they give you soy sauce that isn’t all salty. Very good and you barely need it since the potstickers have so much flavor.



And yes, thanks to Kiyoshi (or his shame at me wanting a fork at a ramen place in Little Tokyo years ago)I know how to use chopsticks.



I usually get the chicken or beef pad Thai but this time I got the chicken fried rice. I am so glad that I did. It was so damned good. Didn’t need anything with it. No sauces or anything sprinkled on top. That is Camille’s hand you see taking my cucumber because you all know I’m not eating that vegetable. This place is on La Cienega a block or so before Olympic. Good fast service with a very nice staff.
