Republique On La Brea

After Poppy + Rose JP and I went to this place Republique on La Brea and 6th. She sent me a picture of this thing that looked like a S'more on crack and I was all in. We had to find parking because as my friend Cam would let you know parking is a bitch anywhere near that area. So we get there and walk up to the display case with what was left of the pastries. They had three of what I came for but it took a moment to spot them. Why? They was tiny! The picture we saw made them look like they were the size of my hand. They were tiny which turned out to be a good thing. I liked them alright but there was too much happening in them. JP didn't even want hers.

She got a carrot cake thing that was okay. I got a big cookie that smelled great but tasted like display case if that makes any sense. It tasted like whatever it was near. I also got a big donut that tasted like a Girl Scout Cookie. Nothing was mind blowing. It was all just okayish. No need to go back here.

Fat Tour 2014

The other day I hung out with my cousin J. and it was awesome. We don't see each other often so when we do we tend to eat stuff that we have been talking about. This time it was a trip to two spots. One I forgot I mentioned which ended with us being stuck in traffic for an hour on Sunset Blvd. There was some accident and we sat in her car laughing our asses off at music, people walking by, and life.

We were heading towards the wrong pastry place and she said that she thought we were going to Pinche's first. I was confused and guided us into the bad traffic I mentioned. We finally got there and I ordered us two Mexican Cokes which she'd never had before. We both commented on how you can't drink as much of these as you can regular Coke's.

I ordered what I always order which were the flautas. I said I wouldn't but I did. This time I got the beef ones and they are so damned good. I wasn't even trying to cut them in half. I just crammed them into my mouth and let the guacamole get all up in my beard.

Röckenwagner Bakery In Santa Monica

Miss E. and I went to Santa Monica a couple days ago. We didn’t hit up our usual spots on Beverly or in Larchmont but decided to check out the beach. I hadn’t been over to Santa Monica in a long ass time and the mall over there was still under construction which had been going on for years. I was shocked to see how much it had changed. There was this entire food court that was the complete opposite of the food court that used to be there that had such mall staples Sbarro and Panda Express. Maybe there was even a Hotdog On A Stick aka Perv Paradise. Miss. E had been here before so I left it up to her to lead me around especially since I’m no expert in fresh food and we ended up at Röckenwagner.

Porto's

Photobucket
Porto’s is awesome! Ms. J. and I braved literally hundreds of people to get some delicious pastries. We got some guava cream ones and this delicious beef ones. No, I didn’t get pictures of them because they got eaten! The guava ones were so flaky and good. The beef ones made me so happy! Like I mentioned in a previous post, we brought these into The Alcove and snacked on them. When I say there were hundreds of people I’m not kidding. They had to be there for Mother’s Day and the line was out of the door. You have to brave Glendale and the insane ass traffic. But so worth it!

Pastries!!!

Last night I had a dinner with my friends Michelle, Julie, and Heidi. We had everything. Ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls, lots of wine, brussel sprouts (which I actually ate a tiny bit of), and pastries. Heidi brought a box of pastries! There was red velvet cupcake, tres leches, mango cheesecake something or other, chocolate cupcake, and some other stuff that I was too full to touch. I even made a banana cream cheesecake that is sitting in my fridge untouched. The red velvet cupcake was freaking amazing! Its my new addiction and I like it. The best part about the icing was that it was fluffy. It wasn’t that thick and cake icing like that’s hard to eat. I just wish I could remember where she got it from. Yeah. Be real nice if I could remember.
