More Way Too Late Food Posts

Since the summer I have eaten at a lot of different places and tried a lot of new food. Have I been posting about them? No! Why? Because I'm a bum that was also dealing with depression. Now that I'm not I will post about some of the good food I have had over the months. I don't have pictures of everything like Vito's that I went to with Cam but rest assured that we went there before seeing a play and enjoyed it like always. But that new server can go to hell. She rude.

At the Santa Monica Pier L. and I went to this really good seafood spot. I got poke because I have been obsessed with it for a couple years now. She got clam chowder. Both were really good and the service was incredibly fast.

We also went to Leimert Park and got some Ethiopian food at a festival. This was enough for three meals for me. Everything was good.

Three Weeks of Food

Over the past couple weeks I have gone and eaten at some groovy ass places. There are two I have no images of like Pinche's on Sunset with with CK and recently The Counter near the tar pits with Cam. Before the AFI Fest with Coco we headed to PokiNometry. I had been here once before the previous year and it was so damned good. I ended up getting poki at another place this week down the street from me. Just get some shrimp, some tuna, some avocado and I'm good.

Impossible Counter Burger

Last week I went to The Counter with Cam on Sunset. I like this location. Yeah, our waiter was a little weird and they are straight up letting their plants outside die but we still like it there. After some discussion on previous occasions Cam decided to get the Impossible Burger there. I was too hungry to experiment so I stuck with the classic. She liked the Impossible Burger but said that next time she gets it she will just get that patty but with regular toppings. I saw that she had like an entire avocado on hers and that seems excessive to me. I mean, I like the things but I never want an entire one on my burger. My classic burger was good and is just the right amount to not cripple me with fullness. She also got a milkshake and we had to wait a few minutes to get a damned straw because if we get rid of all the straws our planet will be better, right?! Maybe in a few more visits I will get the fancy new burger.

At Inti & The Counter

A few weeks ago I went to Inti twice within a week. I went with JP who had not been since she first took me there and then with Cam since it had been a minute since she'd gone. I swear, this place is consistently good. I have to get the same stuff each time but switch it up a tiny bit. Like when I went with Cam I did not get the ceviche even though I wanted it. I was glad though because I got super full halfway through my meal. With JP she ordered the plantains which were good.

Returning To The Counter

Yesterday after a failed attempt at another place Cam and I headed to The Counter over on Wilshire. I had stopped going for a while after going all the damned time because the service had dropped considerably but the last few times I've gone its been really good. We started with the Allagash White's because we're grown ass adults. She got the original style burger in turkey form I believe and I got the Korean BBQ burger. That thing is so damned good. We also got fries but we started plowing into them before I thought to even get a picture. It was President's Day so the place was filled with families and children. Like, an exorbitant amount of them. I was telling my cousin about this and how when I was little Taco Bell and McDonald's were a big deal. My parents never would have taken me to a place like this. No kid can appreciate a $10 burger I don't care what you say. We still enjoyed ourselves and had fun catching up.

Traffic, Burgers, And Jicama

Here's what happened. Dashuh was here visiting and the plan was to get to Anaheim, hang out, and then bring my ass back home. It should have been a total of about five hours that turned into a mess and a half. I took the bus to Union Station which was easy. But once you get off there are signs, people, and no help everywhere. The signs make no sense. Employees hide in plain site. Its a nightmare.

After four minutes I get my ticket to board a train heading to Anaheim. I ask where to go and am given the wrong information. So while I wait for my train that I think is late it is actually on the other side of the tracks on time and leaving. After realizing that not only was I now late I had wasted $8 on a piece of paper. I could wait another hour for the next one but when I decide to do something stupid I do it fast. So I head out front and hop into a cab.

Random Food

I've gone to a lot of places in the last month and have not been keeping track of them well so I decided to chuck them all into one post. First is Continental Kitchen. I got a good Philly Steak Sandwich and KP got their veggie wrap.

The Counter On Ventura

Today Jen-Jen and I went to The Counter over on Ventura to grab something to eat. She got a burger with fried pickles while I got the sliders. I had never tried them before and knew that I wanted something that wasn't gonna cripple my ass since I knew we would be moving around all afternoon. These little things were really good. They had a pickle, cheese, and onions with fries. I also had a Sprite. Our waitress was good (braids, nice, ass that wouldn't quit) and didn't ask us how the food was while our mouths were full. This was my first time at this location and while it is small it tasted great. Maybe the bigger ones lose something in their size. We sat outside and it was really nice weather today. Just gotta be careful for th crazy hobos on Ventura.

LA County Fair 2014 Food

Last weekend Cam, Jen-Jen, and I went to the LA County Fair once again. We had already decided that we would not get on any crazy rides that would cause crotch pain or bruises so we went on a slide. While we didn't get as wild as the last time we did still try some good food. I tried the Krispy Kreme chicken sandwich. Now, this seems like it would not be good especially once we bit into it and it was filled with jelly, but Ill be damned if it wasn't awesome. It was messy as hell and I had to wipe my hand and face after each bite but it was worth it. This is something that I'd try making myself at home...if there was a damned Krispy Kreme anywhere near me!

I also tried the fried Twinkie. It wasn't as mind-blowing as I expected it to be. If it had been crispier I imagine it would have been awesome but I doubt the cream would've stayed inside. They had the option to top it with chocolate or strawberry drizzle. I went with chocolate since strawberry anything can be iffy. This is something I could try making myself and I am sure I'd do it better. Yes. I am saying that I can do something better than people who do it for a living. Handle it. We forgot to get the fried Oreo's and didn't think about it until we had already been there for six hours and was ready to go home. We stopped off at The Counter where I enjoyed a BLT that I ate so fast that I barely remember tasting it. Good times!

Mini Food Tour

While Dashuh visited we went on a mini food tour. I'll try and remember the order we went in. I think we went to The Counter last but I don't have pictures from there anyway but believe me...it was good. We went to Bubba Gump's at Universal City Walk and my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I got the sampler which had shrimp, fish, fries, and hush puppies. By the time I got to my po' boy and shrimp I was full. It was all good. Dashuh got a half rack of ribs that I finished the next day because I'm a good friend.

Chilling At The Counter

Last week Cam and I went to The Counter. We kept trying to figure out where we were gonna go to get beer. Not just regular ass beer because Cam knows good beer and it takes a special tasting beer for me to give a damn about beer. We managed to make it to the restaurant during the last five minutes of happy hour. I never go to happy hours. I ordered an Allagash that had 11% alcohol and proceeded to get plastered.

Cam got this sampler they had and realized that the ones with the most alcohol tasted the best.

Food At The End Of 2013

I have gone to quite a few places in the last few weeks and have been lazy about posting about them or forgetting to take pictures of food before I devoured it. So here are the places I ate between Christmas and last week not including an extra trip to Fatburger I took and a trip to Mendocino Farms. These will not be in order.

Went to Vito's over on La Cienega and Santa Monica with Cam. This place is so good. Cam had never been before and she liked one of the pizzas she got (by the slice we aren't savages) more than the other. Mine was too spicy for her. I think I may have to go here again soon.

Itis Causing Burgers At The Counter

Me and Coco went to The Counter on Wilshire after a show at LACMA because as she put it “Jazz makes me hungry.” I had sworn off this place for a while because the service had dropped considerably and the food wasn't as good anymore. Thankfully the last two times I've gone its improved. It was a Friday night an very busy on the inside and outside but after about a five minute wait we were seated at a both like I requested which was nice. We started off with an order of fries and I got a lemonade to drink.

For my order I got a burger with bacon, grilled onions, garlic sauce, avocado, and cheese. The avocado slid off immediately so Coco just took it along with any onions that fell off. By the way, that is something only women can get away with. The burger was good and I finished every bite. The Itis began almost right after my last piece.

Coco got this monster. It had crispy onions, boiled egg, cheese, lettuce, garlic sauce, tomato, and pineapple. She couldn't finish this beast. She got halfway through before tapping out and taking hers home. I feel better knowing that this place is back to being good again.

The Counter On Sunset Rules

The other day Miss Q. and I went to The Counter. No, not that shitty one on Wilshire that has terrible service, but the cool one on Sunset. Let me talk about that one on Wilshire. Not only have I had two shit experiences there, but Miss Q. had one as well with a group of people. That place really needs to get their stuff together before they go the way of the Koo Koo Roo that was there. Anyhoot…

The one on Sunset is great. We went there with Wolfenstein because they allow pets outdoors and they even brought us a heater since it was chilly outside. Yes, I know I live in California. And yes, you are a jerk for mentioning how much colder it is where you are. Sorry. Them’s the rules.

Oishi Sushi

A couple days ago me and Cam (whose hand has made multiple appearances in this blog) went to this sushi place called Oishi Sushi over in Beverly Hills. I’ve mentioned before that I am still getting into sushi and have tried about six places now and I tend to get the same meal each time. That didn’t change. I got my same meal. But I did try something new this time. We had tried to go to this place a few times but either we ran out of time or we wanted it too early in the day to get it. Last Friday was perfect so we went. But before that happened…

Father's Office

Last week I went to Father’s Office in Culver City with Miss L. She had posted about this place and I was always wondering “When’s gonna be my time?!” Well, I finally got to go and I’ll be damned if this wasn’t the best burger I’ve ever had! I know I said the same thing about Umami Burger. Then I said it about The Counter. Well, I’m saying it once again. The burger has blue cheese, lettuce, and some kinda sauce that is just delicious. They also give you a mountain of fries so split your order. And don’t get me started on their powerful ass drinks! The staff was really awesome and nice and there when you needed them. I loved this place but already Cam has told me about a place that’s supposed to be better. We’ll see how that goes.

(edit: Was just told by Miss L. herself “How can you forget to write about the bone marrow fat!?!” so here it goes)

For an appetizer we got this bone marrow fat. Yeah. I know it sounds strange and I’m really not one to experiment when it comes to what goes in my mouth. Don’t be a pervbot. It is a couple of pieces of beef marrow with the smoothest, most buttery, most tastiness inside. It was served with pieces of toasted slices of bread to spread it on. I had heard for a while that marrow had the best tasting part of most meats but I was nervous about trying it. I’m so glad I did though.

At The Counter Again

So I went to The Counter on Wilshire near the La Brea Tar Pits with South Paw. She had never gone to the Counter so I was more than happy to share the joy that Cam once introduced me to. For started we got the fries and onion rings combo. The onion rings weren’t like regular onion rings. They were these tiny little onion shreds and they were really good and served with this awesome barbecue sauce. I liked these more than regular ass onion rings because they weren’t as strong.

For a burger I got a jalapeno cheese burger and garlic aioli sauce with a Sprite. They forgot the bacon. They forgot the bacon! I’ll get to this later. It was really good though. I always get more stuff well done after the infamous Dante Gets Food Poisoning Incident of ‘08. I forgot to take a picture of South Paw’s burger before she started eating it but here it is. It had bacon. Mine didn’t. She enjoyed it and we both got full as I always do when at The Counter. Now allow me to rant about wait staff for a moment.

Our waiter was nice enough. She was nice. Wasn’t mean. She was just nonexistent. Now to set the scene, it was not busy there. Plenty of waiters working. No loud kids or large groups to serve. South Paw told me to mention that my bacon wasn’t on it but I was hungry now and didn’t want them to take my food back and wipe boogers on it. I waited a while to get a refill (which those of you that have eaten with me I will drink 5 drinks and not go to the bathroom). Then we had to wait for a while to get the check. Why? Because our waitress was outside chatting with a cute guy.

Was he a customer? No. He was just there. So I find another waiter and ask him for our check. He says he’ll tell our waitress. Sigh. She finally arrives and gets our check and then returns to tell us she will be back with our change. Then she arrives more minutes later to ask us if we want dessert. The thing that sucks is that I would have loved a milkshake but we had waited so long I was ready to leave.

The Counter on Wilshire has really good food but hiring these kids that want to be actors or whatever (yes, I am Mr. Presumptuous) that make me wait for food only to forget the bacon, which is an unforgivable offense, is getting to me.

Addicted To The Counter

Photobucket
Last week I went to The Counter. This was a new location over on Wilshire near the La Brea Tar Pits. They replaced that punk ass Koo Koo Roo that had been there for years polluting the world with the saltiest chicken this side of the mythical ocean foul. I got a 1/3 pound burger with bacon, grilled onions, and a side of sauce I cant pronounce. I love this place.  I have now been to three locations and each one has been consistent in its goodness. On the side I got the half and half of regular fries and sweet potato. My ass just ate and already this picture is making me hungry.

Still Loving The Counter

A photo of the burger I had at The Counter on Sunset & Fairfax when I hung out with my cool ass cousin. I don’t know how I managed to forget to post this picture seeing as how I have a damn food blog. This one had cheddar cheese, bacon, thick grilled onions, with a side of guacamole and garlic sauce. Damn, I love The Counter.

The Counter On Sunset Blvd.

I have been to The Counter up here on Sunset near Fairfax three times since I found out it was there. I fucking love The Counter and if I ever eat a better burger I am gonna bite my fucking tongue off. I love this place so hard you don’t even know.

Photobucket

See, I was all about Umami Burger until Camille first took me to The Counter in Santa Monica. Now I have gone with my cousin and two of my favorite people. They let you build your burger however you want (yes, there are vegetarian options but why would I discuss such things?). The sweet potato fries are delicious. Just don’t bother getting the lemonade. Its pretty much Minute Maid.
