Tacos, Ribs, Beef Wellington, and Chicken Sandwiches

In an effort to make sure I don't fall too far behind on these food blogs I am going to make sure I try and stay up to date with these. The first place I'm going to talk about is Guisado's where L. and I went to get some tacos. She had never been there before and I had been there of course with JP and I really like this place. We ended up getting some tacos that weren't exactly what she was expecting but she still kind of like them but she and I really loved the ceviche that they had. They normally do not have this all the time so it was a cool surprise and a half and after having a bite of hers I had to get my own. They also have very bionic lemonade.

More Way Too Late Food Posts

Since the summer I have eaten at a lot of different places and tried a lot of new food. Have I been posting about them? No! Why? Because I'm a bum that was also dealing with depression. Now that I'm not I will post about some of the good food I have had over the months. I don't have pictures of everything like Vito's that I went to with Cam but rest assured that we went there before seeing a play and enjoyed it like always. But that new server can go to hell. She rude.

At the Santa Monica Pier L. and I went to this really good seafood spot. I got poke because I have been obsessed with it for a couple years now. She got clam chowder. Both were really good and the service was incredibly fast.

We also went to Leimert Park and got some Ethiopian food at a festival. This was enough for three meals for me. Everything was good.

Way Too Late Food Posts

Oh my god. I have not written on here since last August and have not gone to a ton of places but have been a lazy ass and not updated this blog. This blog is pretty much for myself anyway. None of y'all reading this. I am gonna write some quick things about the places unless I feel like saying something extra. So...yeah. Here.

Cam and I decided to try chicken sandwiches from different places. We tried out Church's and Jack In The Box. JITB was the best one which is weird considering you would think Church's would be awesome considering they are a damn chicken place.

The other two places were Burger King which was fine and had nice sauce. By far the worst one was McDonald's. I was only able to take a single bite of of that and just stopped. Cam thought it was gross too.

Food That Never Came At Hot N' Juicy Crawfish

I wish I could tell you how good Hot N' Juicy Crawfish is but I can't because I never got my order. My cousin Mala has mentioned this place to me many times over years and I am not a huge seafood fan. I liked shrimp. Fried. I can just eat it. I don't like taking my food apart and eating it or when my food looks like what it used to look like. I don't need to see eyes and such. So L. took me here for a surprise. Got our seats pretty quickly and all that. I ordered fried shrimp and cajun fries while she got this bag of chaos with all kinda stuff in it. They even give you a bib and cover the table up like a scene out of Dexter. So I get my fries and L. got her bag of food. No shrimp. Five minutes later. Ten. Twenty. They ask me how my food is. I say it has not come. Waitress says she will check. Says about two minutes. I've worked on Hell's Kitchen. There is no such thing as two minutes out a kitchen. So after about 45 minutes I just ask for the check because my food never arrived. L. made sure they removed my order. So, yeah. Will I go back? Maybe in a long while from now. I just can't get over a place being able to crank out every other table around me but not have the ability to bring regular ass fried shrimp.

Mel's Fail

A couple months ago I went to Universal Studios with L. Other than it being hot as hell, during a pandemic, no water fountains, and witnessing a few almost fights, we had a good time. Mostly at the Harry Potter area. Spent hours there. Anyhoot, L. had never been to Mel's while I had, but it was the location on Hollywood. Very good every time I have gone. But this Universal Studios one should be ashamed of themselves. You could have a kid whip you a burger that looks and tastes better than this. It took such a long time for anyone to get their food and when we did it was edible but barely even worth me writing about. And they had the nerve to serve the smallest milkshake I've ever gotten there with a thick paper straw. If you and your family or friends are at Universal, do not spend your money or time here. Hell, eat before you go since everything that goes in your mouth costs too much. I dare you to even spot the patty.

Prawn And Moon Rabbit

Have you ever heard of this place called Prawn? Its in Downtown LA at the Grand Central Market. L. and I went there for the first time a couple months ago and afterward she could not stop thinking about it. We were looking for something while we were downtown and walked around the entire area when we both started smelling some shrimp. Like, through our masks it smelled great. I got into the Soul Train line and placed my order while she managed to grab a seat. She got a Thai lobster roll which was amazing but the best thing was the fried shrimp I had. It was by far the best tasting fried shrimp I have ever had in my life. No joke.

We ended up heading back specifically for this place about a month later. The plates looked different but the food was still good. L. got this lobster dish that was supposed to have lobster sauce but didn't which sucked but it was still good. I also got the cod along with shrimp and it was delicious. This place is seriously just really good. Takes a bit to get it but its well worth it.

Oh, and each time we got this jasmine rose tea from Moon Rabbit. Holy hell, they make some good tea! The cup is huge and lasts a while. Just be careful not to accidentally inhale an entire rosebud or tea leaf while drinking it.

Double Fat Tours!!!

JP came to visit! She arrived in late May and stayed till early June but we managed to squeeze in two Fat Tours. For those of you that don't know, Fat Tours are when we go to three or more places and eat. During the first tour we went to Tacos Tu Madre which she told me about even though she was halfway across the country. We went and while it was good I was bummed out that her tacos were so cold. Between grabbing the food and getting to my place it was less than five minutes and I waited ten to even get my food.

BJ's Burgers (Late Ass Blog) For My Best Friends Birthday

Out of all the blogs I write this is the only one where I will let things pile up so much it just becomes overwhelming and I just sit here with photos from my food adventures and eventually sit down and write one of these and try my best to remember when I went to these places.

Last year it was rough to convince me to go out and eat some place. Spots were opening and closing and then being super packed and I wasn't trying to get sick. But last May while hanging out with my best friend around her birthday we were out in Arcadia or somewhere and went to BJ's because that place is always good.

I got a bacon burger with fries while Cam got a chicken salad I believe. See? This is what happens when I take too long. Like, this was in May! The food was great and the waitress was the bomb. She refilled my lemonade about four times even though the place was busy. We ate outside and I felt good about not being around all them crowds of people at other tables. The only other BJ's I've been to is the one at Fox Hills I think and that place is good too. But the service at this one was the best.

Dog Haus (and Vito's) With My Best Friend

I went to Dog Haus with Cam! I haven't been able to go out and eat that much as you can tell by how inactive this site was last year because the world shut down and I tend to eat out with folks. Today went went to Dog Haus in Pasadena and I inhaled my hot dog in the car with fries and a vanilla milkshake. Cam got the corndog and tots with a root beer float while I got the Mr. Miyagi. I think watching Cobra Kai has affected me too much. The Mr. Miyaga contains “a deep-fried all beef dog, caramelized onions, mayo, teriyaki sauce, tempura crumbles & wasabi furikake; on grilled King's Hawaiian rolls.” Come on, now! It was so good I forgot I had fries. If anything I wanted wasabi that was stronger because I couldn't taste it. Not complaining though because this thing was incredible.

In December I think Cam and I went to Vito's on La Cienega. This kind of became our spot to either have delivered or picked up. This time we actually ate outside at what looks to be their soon to be new location in the same lot but much bigger. They have outside seating and we saw a bigger area that was empty and asked if we could sit there and could so we did. I always get pepperoni there and Cam gets fancier things.

Boss Eatz In Long Beach

This past Saturday I trekked to Long Beach with Miss Jackie to get some food. When she first told me about it I was hesitant because I have not for real gone out to eat since earlier this year. We headed out that way and I am so glad she got me to leave my house. The food was served by Boss Eatz and every single thing I ate was good. Over the years I have learned to appreciate good food more. I know that sounds silly but when I say a hotdog is good I don't mean like in a toss it in boiling water and throw some mustard and I'm fine good like ten years ago. The hotdog I got was fucking good. The first things I got was a Doyers Dog which was an all beef hotdog with bacon wrapping and caramelized onions and peppers. I devoured it.

Food From 2020 Since The World Shut Down

This year has been ridiculous. It is still ridiculous. But before everything went to shit I did eat. Things started shutting down about a week after my birthday so I was able to grab a few things. I'll try to keep these in some sort of order. This is stuff I had pictures of but didn't post.

I was gifted me a box of treats like all manner of hot ass chips and beef jerky. I finished the jerky within two days or so because I am an animal with no self control.

Cam took me to Sushi Koo for my birthday and it was good. I am not someone who eats the kinda sushi that people who really love sushi eats. I get fried things and basic shit and cover it in wasabi. I would love to go back to this place.

Cam and I went to SK's Donuts and got some delicious donuts there. That place has been consistently incredible since they reopened.

Tacos Tu Madre (First Time!)

Long time no write. JP sent me a message saying there was this place called Tacos Tu Madre nearby. I had never heard of this place and never go down that street and never would have found out about this if she hadn't told me. There is a serious lack of good food in this area so I was excited to try this. I ordered and went to grab it in fifteen minutes and I'll be damned if it wasn't ready.

I got the grilled chicken bowl which consisted of cilantro lime marinated chicken, pico de gallo,
avocado tomatillo salsa, chile lime queso fresco
. I also got the Korean taco which had 36 hour asian marinade steak, kimchi, avocado tomatillo salsa. Both of these were so damn amazing. The bowl is enough for two meals so I had half. The place looks super nice. I got it to go but they have seating indoors and outdoors. I know people are asking about Covid spacing and such. Just get your food and go home if you're worried, you weirdos.

Baby's First Bread

I made bread. Like actual for real ass bread for myself. I made the first loaf a couple weeks ago using a recipe CK sent me. She made me some bread and it was so damned good and made her place smell great. I wanted to try it but figured I did not have the ingredients or tools to even begin. Turns out you don't need much. I have a stove, a big pot, and water. All I needed was yeast, flour, and salt. Yeah. Recipe only has four ingredients.

This is the first one I made. It came out flatter than I pictured but tasted really good. I realized that I messed up pouring the water into the mixture because it became very hard to stir it all together. Either way, I let it sit overnight and baked it and got to eat bread that I made. I still wanted it taller and with more holes.

Tlayuda L.A and Kruang Tedd

I went to Tlayuda L.A with CK. She had mentioned going to this place on Santa Monica Blvd. I can't pronounce the name even when I see it written down frenetically. CK got the tlayuda veggie style while I got two chicken tacos and two Coke's because I am an animal. I liked this place and the tacos were really good. I was expecting some bootleg shredded chicken but this had really good chicken I would eat by itself. And they were not stingy with the avocado. This place is also really comfortable and the staff was nice. No long wait for the meal and I housed those chips while we waited.

A few days ago we went to Kruang Tedd on Hollywood over in Thai Town. I have not had super good Thai in along time since King & I aka @Bangkok and then some other name or Kinaree back in the day before their service became garbage and they changed their name to Otus. Now Otus is good but Kruang Tedd is almost close to King & I good. We got chicken larb mild. CK got a tofu with glass noodles. And of course the tom yum soup with medium heat. Medium my ass. I got hiccups but they thankfully passed. Oh, and I got a Thai iced tea. Just one because people know that I can house three of them in one sitting. I am so glad that I got to try two new places in a few days that were both really good.

First Time At The Griddle

Last week I went to The Griddle for the first time ever. I have lived near the place for over twenty years and every time I was close to it I was either seeing a movie, enjoying Coffee Bean, Zankou, or at The Counter (no longer there). Every time I saw the place the line was huge and I have learned to stop going to places with long lines. Nothing worse than eating your food with a bunch of people waiting for your ass to finish eating. I would have not gone if CK did not suggest it. We went there early in the morning and there were just a few tables taken. I kept saying "Booth booth booth booth booth..." because if I go to a place with booths, damn it, I want to be in one.

CK ordered some coffee and she got the blueberry pancakes and I got one with apples called Teacher's Pet. We contemplated sides and after seeing these monstrous ass pancakes I am so glad we didn't. I was able to eat maybe 15% of my pancake. I thought it would be one massive thing and it turns out there are three of them. If you are able to eat one of these by yourself in one sitting someone needs to talk to you. I had it for breakfast, dinner later, breakfast the next day, and the damn thing was just half past gone. If I go again I will split pancakes with someone instead. Oh, and my dumb ass didn't know they had other food. I thought it was all pancakes.
