Late Ass Food Blog

I am terrible and have not been posting food blogs. Its not that I haven't been eating with folks. I just have not taken pictures every time and then I had to get a new camera. Oh, so much nonsense. A few months ago when JP visited we went to Marix and I forced myself to not get a hamburger. It was so damned good as it usually is. That is what I like about places I enjoy. Consistency. This place is consistent and I have never had a bad meal here. I also got to sit with JP and laugh like lunatics as usual.

Yesterday Cam came by and said the magic words. “I got you donuts.” Well come on eeeeen! After heading to the thrift store and getting some books we headed to my place and after looking at all my plants (click here to see 'em!). She went to SK's Donuts and got an Oreo one, bacon, and pumpkin spice. We tried the pumpkin spice one first and it was so damned good. Not as sweet as I imagined it would be and the cream melted in my mouth. The Oreo one was perfect. Again, I thought Cam wouldn't like it because she is not a fan of super sweet things but both of us really like it. She didn't touch the bacon one but I touched it so hard half an hour after she left. It was so damned good. The last time I tried to go to this place it was closed for renovation so I am glad they weren't lying the way Continental Kitchen did over here.

I forgot one! Before seeing Phantom of the Opera at the Pantages Cam and I went to Toi on Sunset and had some delicious Thai. When I want Thai food I always forget that this place exists until she mentions it.

Trying Out Some Crack Shack

JP came back into town! None of you know how excited that made me. Before she got here we decided that we were gonna try out this place she had told me about called Crack Shack. By the way, terrible name. They should change that. We headed to the Century City mall and gave this place a try and I am super glad that we did. It was a Friday afternoon (which I kept forgetting) and the place was packed. They have so many seats that it did not matter. We found a booth inside after ordering. Ordering is all the way in the back in the corner. We walked around for a minute looking for it and I was making eye contact with random White women wondering if they were staff or not. So yeah. If you work there, happen to be a White women, I was not flirting with you. I was hungry and confused. We ordered our food and sat down. The food came way faster than I was expecting. Some places could learn a lesson from this one.

I got the Double Clucker and it had “two ground chicken patties, cheddar, bacon, smashed avocado, burger sauce, pickles, fried onions, potato roll.” This damned thing was so good! I had never had a chicken patty this juicy before. Thankfully this comes in a wrapper, which JP ignored, because it would have been in my lap. She got the Coop Deville which was “fried chicken, pickled fresno chilies, lime mayo, napa cabbage, brioche.” Hers looked so good and she liked it. She said she normally does not like the cabbage (cole slaw) on chicken sandwiches but she liked this one. We also split the fries because they were so big that if we had both gotten it we would not have finished it. I got a super sweet lemonade. They have self service for drinks which was nice. They also have an assortment of sauces to try and we did. I will definitely come back here. Oh, and we found a Randy's donuts inside the mall. Did not know they had multiple locations and have never had one even though JP and I have lived in California forever. I got a crumble glazed which was thick and good. She got a chocolate one and a maple. She said they were sweet and did not finish them. I did. They were sweet as fuck! They made my teeth hurt. All around a very good day with food and laughing.

Diabetes Donut Tour 2018

Today Miss Jackie and I traveled around the city (meaning I sat while she drove) in search of delicious donuts. She mentioned this place called Dona's a bit ago so we headed there even though it was all the way in Downey. She crazy. This place is amazing. I was kind of nervous to get crazy donuts because of one place JP and I went to a while ago but decided to go head and try some anyway here. This is one of the cleanest donut places I've been to and very open. There is no long line out the front door. All the employees engage you. They are not rushing you. No music blaring. Just a cool spot with good employees and as it turns out and 8/8 tasty ass donuts.

Yardbird And Trejos Donuts

Last week JP and I went to two spots where one was new to each of us. I had recently found out that Yardbird opened up nearby at The Beverly Center so we went there. I planned on getting the meal JP ended up getting until I saw a hamburger that sounded good and got that instead. She got the Lewellyn's Fine Fried Chicken that included a petite cheddar waffle and some spiced watermelon. Yeah. We know. This was really good and had half of a fried chicken. This was the lunch menu so I was able to get The Great American Burger with a side of really good fries. It consisted of short rib, brisket and chuck blend, house-smoked pork belly, American cheese, house pickles, and special sauce. So good. For dessert which is rare for us to get after eating we had the Peanut Butter Pie Bar which had bacon butterscotch ganache, roasted white chocolate crumbles. I'll definitely head back here. Prices are a bit more than we usually pay at places we eat but since we're adults with jobs and don't do this often...fuck it.

Trejo's Donuts

After Miss Jackie and I went to get a donut. First we went to SK Donuts and guess what? They closed! They closed day before Christmas and have been closed since. Thanks, Erf. She asked about another spot nearby and there are some things that are okay. I suggested Trejo's Donuts over on Highland which I have never been to. I just hoped that they would have at least one good flavor out of the five that we got. Turns out out of the five that four were good! Great odds, y'all. And Miss Jackie got stickers.

We started with one of the nastiest things I have ever put in my mouth while not behind bars. The Nacho donut. Do not ever get this and they should be ashamed to make this. It had jalapeno, chives, cheddar cheese, and hot sauce on a donut that was the consistency of cornbread. Not never. The Hail Mary was good. It had Cajeta (caramel from goats milk) and salt. Another good choice. Three Amigos was tres leches bath and tres leches glaze. This was messy and nice but not too messy. The Lemon “Papi” was good and had the right amount of lemon flavor and not tart. It had lemon poppy seed cake, cream cheese frosting, and lemon zest. Lastly we got a Pineapple Fritter which I'd never had before. Another good one. I'd definitely try this place again and get more flavors.

Golden State And ICDC Donuts

Today JP and I did a mini Fat Tour. It only counts as a full fledged one if we go to three or more places. This time we went to two spots that were new to us. The first was Golden State on Fairfax between Melrose and Beverly. She mentioned this place a little bit ago but with my weird ass schedule it was hard to find time to hang out let alone get our food on. We were able to find parking pretty easily considering it was Fairfax Blvd. around lunchtime for folks that work regular hours. We got a seat at the booth after ordering and stared at all the weirdos standing in line in the heat to look at shoes.

For drinks she got a mint lemonade that was good because as she said, you could taste the mint and lemonade. I got an Arnold Palmer. Both were good. Our food came in less than ten minutes which shocked me. I got a bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and garlic aioli sauce. These were some of the best fries I have ever had. No exaggeration. Just amazing. The burger was great and juicy. Though this place was not huge they made good use of the space available. It didn't feel like we were on top of one another. Her hot dog was good and not a plain ass hot dog like I was expecting. Her fries were good too. We will be coming back here for sure to try out some more stuff and get those sweet potato fries again.

Tasty Donuts and Cafe Is Good Again!

Tasty Donuts and Cafe in West Hollywood is back and good again. A while back I wrote about how the usual workers weren't there and the quality dropped a lot. Now they are in a new location that is a block closer to me and the old employees are back plus some new ones that actually give a damn. I haven't seen any of those ones that sucked that I mentioned before. They have added new flavors like this cronut which is awesome. They have bacon maple donuts, too. See, I first had one at Glazed but that place no longer exists because reasons. I have gone back to Tasty since they have reopened a few times and every time I've liked what they've made. They are back to their early 2000's version of good products and that makes me so happy. Hell. I think I'm gonna head there in a few minutes now.
